Tell us how the Oilers looked tonight. Who was the best, who was the worst.

We need you to tell us how each Oilers player did tonight by giving each a thumbs up or a thumbs down. If you think a player is ranked to low give them a thumbs up, if they're to high then a thumbs down is required. Check back later and vote again as required.

The red hot duo of Taylor Hall and Leon Draisaitl combine for six points and lead the Oilers to a 5-1 victory over the Devils.

Now, I'm no Zsolt Munoz but I hope this post gamer will suffice.

Highlights

The Good

Leon Draisaitl is a beast. No, not even a beast. An absolute monster. His time spent in the gym over the summer has clearly paid off, because he is playing at another level. When Connor McDavid went down with his broken clavicle, the last thing I expected was for Neon Leon to step up and score at the pace he has.

Tonight was no different as he potted three points. Draisaitl has continued to look very strong through his first ten games this season. Who knows where he can go from here upon McDavid's eventual return but I do not see envision an Oilers lineup in the future without Draisaitl in the Oilers top six.

One of the nice things was to see the team winning lots of battles tonight. Hard work along the boards paid off.

Jordan Eberle's scored his second goal in two games tonight and while it may not have been the prettiest of goals, it proved to be the dagger in the heart of the Devil(s). While it has taken him a little while to get back after recovering from his shoulder injury I think it is fair to say that he is back. Mark Letestu created a great turnover and thus scored the Oilers fourth goal of the game. It was nice to see the Oilers keep the gas pedal down in the 3rd period.

The Bad

Is there anyone actually in Rexall place? Watching the game on Sportsnet, I don't think the Oilers fans made any noise whatsoever tonight. There really wasn't very much bad tonight.

What's with Jordin Tootoo giving Darnell Nurse those shots with 1:17 to go? Good on Darnell for keeping a cool head. His play has been exceptional this season. The time spent back in the OHL following his draft year, as well as the time spent in the AHL has clearly paid off. For Nurse to come in this season

The Ugly

For some reason, the Devils decided to pull Keith Kinkaid with about 3:30 left in the 3rd period. They were down 4-1 already, so why not make it 5? Hall happily obliged as he and Draisaitl each got another point.

Thoughts

Despite the fact that at times the Oilers looked sloppy, I felt that tonight was a really solid effort from the whole team. Each of our four lines keep the pressure on during the forecheck, and all were in a good position to support defencemen and limit shots in the game.

Up Next

The Oilers head out on the road again for a 5-game trip to the East coast. The team will face Washington, Carolina, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Toronto. So far this season the Oilers are 4-2 against Eastern Conference teams, so here's to hoping the team can continue to find success there and build confidence for when they return from the road. When they do come back, they will face Boston, Dallas, Buffalo, San Jose and the Rangers, so a few road wins would certainly help get the team ready to face some strong opponents.

What did you make of tonight's win?

The Oilers host the New Jersey Devils, and look to snap a three game losing streak.

The New Jersey Devils make their annual appearance in Edmonton tonight. I can't tell you how glad I am that the NHL finally smartened up and went back to a schedule format where every team visits every city each season. If for no other reason than it means fewer games against the Wild, which is always a good thing. After another moral victory on Wednesday night the Oilers, who are now in the NHL's basement again, are looking to snap a three game losing streak against a Devils team that last played on Tuesday night in Calgary, a game that they lost in overtime.

How To Watch

Puck drop: 7:00PM MST
TV: Sportsnet Oilers
Radio: 630 CHED

What To Watch For

Leon Draisaitl continues to be one of the most fun Oilers to watch right now. He's using his body well and he's putting the puck in the net, if you don't like that then there is something wrong with you. The Dr. Drai nickname does leave a lot to be desired, but I suspect that the Deutschland Dangler will catch on soon enough. On the downside, he's probably not going to continue to shoot 31.6%. And yes, an individual point percentage of 90.9% is likely unsustainable as well. But who cares? He's playing good hockey and getting some friendly bounces. Someone has to get the good bounces, it might as well be him, and we might as well enjoy it while it lasts.

The Opposing View

From All About The Jersey:

What doomed the Devils in Calgary was that they just had pucks bouncing off or straying from their sticks throughout most of the game. Not only were passes just not being collected, but simple carries by Devils would just be lost. While the ice wasn't perfect, the Flames had little issue adjusting and so they were able to move the puck smoothly. The turnovers made by the Devils' sticks gave them ample opportunities to do just that. If they want to be able to get points and make the most of opportunities against Edmonton, then they need to actually have the puck to do so. Put it another way: the Devils experienced the opposite of what transpired on Tuesday when they smashed Pittsburgh. It's not a coincidence.

Guess who scores the Oilers' first goal tonight and you could win.

What is it? The concept is pretty simple, guess who scores the Oilers' first goal of the evening and you could win a prize.

How do I play? Post your prediction for the player who will score the Oilers first goal of the night in the comments below, and please use the subject line to make your prediction. Tweets won't be counted, comments on our Facebook page won't be counted.

How do the points work? A correct guess is worth 10 points. If the players you pick scores the Oilers' second goal you receive 5 points. The third goal of the evening is worth 3 points. Goals four, five, six, and beyond are all worth 1 point. You receive points for every goal that "your" player scores during the game.

Can you give me an example? Luke Gazdic scores a natural hat trick and does a bunch of other things that leave you speechless. The Oilers blow that lead and the game ends up tied at three before Justin Schultz scores to put the Oilers back in front. Gazdic adds an empty net goal and the Oilers win 5-3. If you chose Gazdic, you get 19 points. Schultz would have been worth 1.

What can I win? We'll be tallying the points on a weekly basis and posting up to date standings with the first game of every week. After the last game in November the leader will win a Connor McDavid jersey shirt. And then we'll start the whole thing over again in December with a brand new prize.

Whose in the lead right now? Sorry, no update today. We'll have up to date standings for the next game. Just in time for the five game stretch run.

The Best Of Times

The Oilers should have taken two points against the Blackhawks on Wednesday, but you know how that goes. The Oilers outshot Chicago by a margin or 37-27, but Chicago's Artemi Panarin had three points (1-2-3) including an assist on the game winner in OT as the Blackhawks skated out of Edmonton with two points. Jordan Eberle, Benoit Pouliot and Leon Draisaitl each scored for the Oilers. The Oilers earned a point with a shootout loss, but are desperate for two point games. Tonight, they take on a Devils team that's surprised out of the gate.

Let's go to the tape.

The Oilers outshot the Blackhawks 11-3 (!) in the first period, but yielded the first two goals in the second period. The Oilers controlled the puck in front of Hawks goalie Corey Crawford, but weren't able to notch one until the sixteen minute mark of the second.

First, is Individual Corsi For per 60 (iCF/60). This basically tallies all the shots on target, missed shots, and blocked shots a player has taken up until I pulled the data, and then turned it into a rate stat.
Why Evgeny Kuznetsov is taking off for the Washington Capitals - Craig Custance -- ESPN ($$$)
It took all of 45 seconds for Evgeny Kuznetsov to end another overtime. The burgeoning Washington Capitals star took a pass along the wall early in overtime in Detroit, made a subtle little pass to himself off the wall to get past Henrik Zetterberg, and then turned on the jets to beat the remaining Red Wings on the ice to goalie Petr Mrazek.
