The jerseys for the World Cup of Hockey were released today.

Along with preliminary rosters, we got our first look at the uniforms of the eight team (not countries) that will participate in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. There are some good, I really like the jerseys that will be worn by Team Finland and Team Sweden. And some not so good, like Team North America and Team Canada, I'm not a fan of either of those.

What are your thoughts?

Leon Draisaitl and Andrej Sekera will skate as a members of Team Europe at the World Cup of Hockey.

When the World Cup of hockey was announced last summer I don't think many people would have expected Leon Draisaitl to make the cut for the Team Europe, a team made up of player from the countries not directly participating in the tournament. Following training camp and his assignment to Bakersfield in the AHL the chances of his playing in the tournament with some of Europe's best was probably even more remote.

But an injury to Connor McDavid opened the door for Draisaitl and he didn't just walk through it, he kicked the door open with 16 goals and 28 assists in 55 games. He's been a fantastic player for the Oilers this season and one of the team's bright spots. His play rightly got the attention of the people putting together Team Europe and Drasiatl was today named as part of the team's preliminary roster announcement.

Joining Draisaitl on Team Europe will be Andrej Sekera. See, the Oilers defence isn't that bad, at least one of them is good enough to play in a tournament like this. Not really a best on best tournament, more of a best-ish on best-ish, that's a decent description. Sekera is from Solvakia and has represented his home country on numerous occasions, including five World Championships and the last two Olympics.

These are the 14 other players that we know will skate alongside Sekera and Draisaitl:

Two Oilers should be on Team North America. Only one was named today.

The preliminary roster for Team North America is out and there is an Oiler on the list: Connor McDavid. Nothing surprising there. McDavid, despite having played in just 28 games, is consistently one of the best players on the ice each and every night, not just for the Oilers, for both teams. He's scored 12 goals and added 19 assists this season and the only thing that's slowed him down was a broken collarbone that kept him out of the lineup for the better part of the three months. There would have been no reason to keep Connor McDavid off this team.

What is surprising is that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins didn't make the list today. This is just the first 16 players, there are more names to come, so I would expect Nugent-Hopkins to be playing for Team North America in the tournament this fall, but for now we're left to guess as to why he didn't make the cut. That his NHL GM is also the GM of this team makes it even more intriguing. Nugent-Hopkins is having a down year in terms of production - 8 goals and 22 assists in 46 games - but make a list of North American born players, aged 23 and under, and he'll be on it every time. Except for this time, I guess.
