January 6, 1990 - Two former WHA teams, the Edmonton Oilers and Hartford Whalers, play to a 4-4 tie in front of 17,385 fans in, what was then called, Northlands Coliseum. On this night the Oilers got goals from Jeff Beukeboom, Craig Simpson, and two from Esa Tikkanen and Bill Ranford stopped 26 of 30 shots that the Whalers sent his way. If it wasn't for the fact that this game extended the Oilers home winning streak to a franchise long 14 games there would be little reason to remember this night.
Starting with another tie game, this time against the Los Angeles Kings, 52 days earlier on November 15, 1989 the Oilers' home winning streak would include the games listed below. In total the 14 game unbeaten streak included 11 wins and 3 ties and saw the Oilers outscore their opponents 55-31 along the way. The streak would come to an end the very next night when the Oilers lost by a score of 3-1 to the Calgary Flames.
