Mile High Hockey Takes a Look at the Upcoming Oilers Season

A preview of the Oilers’ 2016/17 season from our friends at Mile High Hockey.

NHL: Colorado Avalanche at Edmonton Oilers Perry Nelson-USA TODAY Sports

With no actual NHL news to cover (they must not have hired a new assistant general manager this week), our friends over at Mile High Hockey have started a new series previewing each of the other 29 teams in the league. Even though the Oilers have spent the better part of the last decade in a league all by themselves, they are technically still part of the NHL, and as such were also included. You can find preview here.

We get so much Oilers news in Edmonton, probably too much, and being as close to the team as we are, there are times where an outsiders view can be refreshing. This is one of the reasons why I like to read season previews from other sites. Also, I’ll know who was wrong if by some miracle the Oilers actually make the payoffs this season, and I can shove it in their stupid faces.

Another reason to give the post a read is because I took a stab at answering these three questions, so even if you hate everything about the post, you still have my brilliant insight to look forward to:

  1. I’d be remiss if I didn’t ask about the new arena the Oilers are opening up. How will it be playing away from Rexall Place for the first time in what seems like forever?
  2. Are there any people you’ve communicated with that were simply SLIGHTLY upset about the Taylor Hall trade, compared to the EXTREMELY upset I’ve seen from and read about? On that line, what can Adam Larsson do to make Oilers fans somewhat forget about Hall?
  3. If Connor McDavid stays healthy and plays all 82 games this season, what kind of campaign are we going to be looking at? How far can he carry this team?

Give it a read and see what Avs fans think of the Oilers chances in 2016/17.
