Oilers and Jets Unveil Heritage Classic Jerseys and Alumni Rosters

Our first look at what the Oilers and Jets will be wearing at the Heritage Classic, and who will be wearing it.

@NHL

On November 22, 2003 the Oilers hosted the Montreal Canadiens in the first outdoor game in NHL history. Honestly, the hockey wasn’t particularly good, my beers were freezing faster than I could drink them, I’m not sure I could have been sitting any further away, and I only recently regained feeling in my toes, but it was still a game that I wouldn’t have wanted to miss.

And that feeling seems to be common among fans, and has in turn led to the NHL massively expanding outdoor games in the 12 years since that first game was played at Commonwealth Stadium. There is now the Winter Classic, the Heritage Classic, and the Stadium Series; this season will even include a game billed as the Centennial Classic. All told there have now been 18 NHL games played outdoor, 17 of them since New Year’s Day 2008.

This season the Oilers will once again play outdoors, this time as the visiting team, when the Winnipeg Jets host the Heritage Classic on October 23; the first of four outdoor games this season. And in front of their home town fans the Jets will wear a fantastic looking limited edition jersey. The Oilers will wear the orange WHA themed jerseys that they debuted last season - I had hoped for something new, so this is a bit of a let down as far as I'm concerned.

The Heritage Classic is more than just a single game though, there is also the alumni game. And now we know a few of the players that will be participating in that game. I don't know about you, but I think the Oilers lineup is a little but better.
