Morning, everyone.

Hope you had a generative long weekend. Self care is important in these trying times. Hope you didn’t have a long weekend full of anti-vaccine protests and throwing your phone at elected officials. If you did, I hope your phone broke and you’ve got a couple years of contract left.

Speaking of contracts, 2019 draftee Ty Tullio signed his ELC.

Interesting, no? You could certainly argue that Blumel had a more successful 2020-21, but the Oilers — for whatever reason *wink* — decided to let his rights lapse. Wonder what that’s all about?

Speaking of European players getting shafted by the Oilers — weren’t we? — how about Dominik Kahun’s NHL career effectively ending yesterday, as he signed a 3-year deal with Switzerland’s SC Bern? Sure, his deal comes with an out clause, but it’s quite something to me to see so many European players count Edmonton as their last stop. Guys who get buried behind the Devin Shores of the world for a season before their reputation drops so significantly they can’t even get a phone call. Wonder what that’s all about, too.

Speaking of not understanding the Edmonton Oilers — I’m hearing some rumblings about how Zack Kassian might start the season on Connor McDavid’s wing. I cannot possibly imagine a better example of someone failing up, so often. Good for him, I suppose, but he is not a first line player, never has been, and never will be. His inclusion on the top line will come at the expense of McDavid and the Oilers. Here’s to that not happening, I suppose.

Connor McDavid is excited to wear the Maple Leaf for Team Canada at the Olympic Games. Part of me thinks he’s mostly excited about the prospect of skating on bigger ice without someone like Neal Pionk riding him like a JanSport with impunity.

The T25 U25 kicked off at the end of last week — a day late thanks to some technical difficulties with the fan vote resultts — with #25-#23 dropping over the long weekend. Stay tuned for #22 later this afternoon.
