Background and Introduction
Well, we have reached the top spot in the 2021 Copper and Blue Top 25 Under 25. And surprising enough that spot is occupied by one Connor McDavid. I have no clue why…
The first overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft was a player who merited CHL Exceptional Player Status and just continued to prove himself as a generational talent. MsDavid became the Oilers youngest captain; proving himself to be the lynchpin of the Oilers success.
In his last six seasons in the NHL, Connor McDavid has scored 195 goals, 379 assists and amassed a massive 574 points in 407 games played. He’s won 3 Art Ross Trophies, 3 Ted Lindsey Memorial Awards, and 2 Hart Memorial Trophies. He’s played in 4 All-Star Games. McDavid was first in points per game in the 2020-2021 shortened season. Since the 2016-2017 season, McDavid has never been lower than second overall in he NHL for points in the season. He’s broken 100 points in four of the last five seasons.
McDavid has, without question or room for debate, been the best overall player in the NHL. And for the majority of his NHL career, McDavid’s talent and skill haven’t had an equal in the NHL. There’s a reason that McDavid has nicknames which include Hockey Jesus. He’s just that good.

Oh, look… we all agree that Connor McDavid is amazing.
Why He Made the List
Why wouldn’t Connor McDavid be on the list? He is without a doubt the best skater on the Oilers. He has an amazing hockey sense, his positioning is good. He makes the people he plays with better and he can score a fancy goal like few people in the NHL. McDavid’s shot from the point may not be as impressive as Draisaitl’s but he’s proven that he’s able to score from just about anywhere on the ice… including like just about behind the net.
If his goals, assists, awards, playmaking, skating, shooting, and general ability to hockey weren’t enough to put him on the list than the Oilers would be a team that would be so phenomenally good it doesn’t bear thinking about.
Here… enjoy some videos of Connor McDavid being awesome at hockey. I think they’ll make my point better than I can
Why He Made the List At 1
I’m sorry… do I really need to address this… who in the Oilers system would be number one on this list? Until Connor McDavid is no longer under 25, he’ll be heading this list. I suppose this could be his last year… at 24 McDavid will turn 25 during the 2021-2022 season. Depending on how we manage the cut off for this list, it might be the last year you get to enjoy Connor McDavid highlights.
But the real answer to the question of why Connor McDavid is the top talent under 25 is because he has proven he can do everything but single handedly drag the Edmonton Oilers to a Stanley Cup parade.
