Morning, folks.
Here’s a spicy one for you — and keen URL readers might be expecting this already — but:
Should've traded Evan Bouchard and not Ethan Bear https://t.co/YesMQl3SUs
— Kai (@NHL_Kai) August 25, 2021
Wow, that’s hot.
You might be thinking, “But Evan Bouchard is arguably the Oilers’ best prospect today, so what are they talking about?” Or something along those lines. Fair point.
You might be thinking something like “Bear was shit Bouchard is fire emoji I question if you even watch hockey” like some of the very obvious mouth breathers in the comments of that tweet. Less fair, but I get it.
But consider: if the Oilers were ‘all-in’ this year, wouldn’t it make more sense to trade the prospect — whose cachet around the league is significantly higher and would therefore fetch a far bigger return than, say, Warren Foegele — rather than the established, best-defender-on-the-team in Ethan Bear?
Wouldn’t it?
Of course, the best move would have been to tell Tyson Barrie to fuck right off and keep both Bear and Bouchard, as the OP acknowledged. Instead? We got what we got.
