The best deals, sometimes, are the ones you don’t make. PLUS: Life without Larsson, more on Duncan Keith, somehow, the going rate for salary dumps, and MORE!

Morning, folks.

Well, we’re still smack dab in the middle of silly season as the Duncan Keith rumors just won’t go away. The latest price is Caleb Jones and a pick or a prospect. And.

Could you imagine?

As Jeff noted yesterday, the Leafs had to pay a pretty premium to get out from one year of Patrick Marleau at $6MM. Keith’s current deal lands in the mid-$5MM range, but comes with an extra year and a full NMC. It also comes with a good five consecutive years of absolute dogshit results, but somehow Edmonton is reported to be paying a super cheap NHL roster player and another asset with positive value for Keith at full pop?!

How?!

Were I the owner, I would simply fire everyone for letting a rumor this pathetic persist. It should be embarrassing to be in on Duncan Keith in 2021.
