Good morning, I hope you are well.
FROM C&B
There were a hundred and six thousand player transactions yesterday.
Edmonton had their hands in a few of them. Here’s what we have:
Ethan Bear got moved to Raleigh for Warren Foegele
Tyson Barrie signed a three year extension
Codi Ceci signed a four year contract to join the Oilers
Zach Hyman’s 7 year deal became official
Edmonton signed Derek Ryan for two years
How much better are the Oilers today? Depends on who you ask. Short answer: the forwards are better, the defence is not. For the most part I think fans will be OK if Ken Holland can acquire an upgrade in net. From the sounds of it, Holland didn’t sound confident that he would be able to enter the goalie market. He’d almost have to do it via trade, as the only goaltenders out there today are Devan Dubnyk, Anders Nilsson and Curits McElhinney. Who wants a first round pick?
ELSEWHERE
Ethan Bear on being traded (Daniel Nugent-Bowman, The Athletic) - The Oilers traded away a good, young right shot defenceman. Where have we read this before?
Chicago Blackhawks sign former Oiler Jujhar Khaira (Zach Laing) - Former Oiler finds new home in Chicago for two years
Once In A Lifetime (Lowetide) - Moves were made. Times were had.
For better or worse, this looks like the club going into 2021-22. Ken Holland made his mark with the cap space he had. How does the club do in 2021-22?
Open up camp. Let’s go.
