The Oilers turned some heads on day 1 of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft after trading down two spots to select Shawinigan’s Xavier Bourgault. Minnesota took highly touted goaltender prospect Jesper Wallstedt, the Oilers picked up a third round selection at number 90 overall in this year’s draft.
Whether or not the Oilers hold onto that pick or package it into something remains to be seen, but they’ll figure it all out in just a little while.
There were some surprises on day 1. William Eklund made it all the way to number 7, the Sharks were rewarded when they picked him up. Owen Power went first overall to the Sabres, which wasn’t too much of a surprise there. The Devils selected Luke Hughes to play with his brother Jack, while Steve Yzerman selected Swedish defensive prospect Simon Edvinsson at number 6.
Day 2 begins at 9 o’clock this morning, so pack a lunch and join us in the comment thread.
