Cross-border travel is a GO for round 3, but Edmonton obviously doesn’t have to concern themselves with such details. PLUS: Ken Holland on analytics, and MORE!

Morning, folks!

An interesting weekend as a Saturday morning mailbag article turned the market on its head for a few hours as Ken Holland revealed a bit of insight into how he and the organization use analytics.

This is a $500MM+ business that, apparently, doesn’t have either a full-time analytics or immigration staff. I suppose if they’re just getting their analytics guy to produce a goal-differential report every Friday morning or whatever, they don’t need him there for 40 hours a week — unless they’ve got visa paperwork to sort out, of course.

The Winnipeg Jets, sweepers of our very own Edmonton Oilers, got their whole asses handed to them last night by the Montreal Canadiens. 5-1. Down 0-3 in the series. This team swept Edmonton and then Ken Holland praised them. This is a man who liked their depth. This is a man who shouldn’t have the job anymore. I am dreading this summer.

My belief is the Edmonton Oilers are an excellent summer away from being a top ~5 club in the NHL as early as next season. It’s possible. It’s doable. Making — and hitting — a bunch of smart bets and identifying some really good bounce-back candidates and the Oilers could be right there. Quickly, as is required at this stage of the McDavid era. Unfortunately, my confidence in Holland’s ability to execute that excellent summer is somewhere between none and none.

It wasn’t the playoff run that Oilers fans expected but it’s the one they got.

Edmonton’s season came to an end last Monday after the Winnipeg Jets swept them 4-0 in their opening-round series. Corey and Preston analyze how this happened and ponder what the offseason could hold for Ken Holland.

It isn’t all bad, however, as the duo discusses a wonderful season by the AHL Pacific Division Champion Bakersfield Condors!
