I’m guilty of saying things like “The Habs suck!” like anyone else, but they were a pretty good 5v5 club during the season and the depth that powered them to those ‘heights’ over the course of the year has helped them push maybe the best team in the league to the brink. Of course, Carey Price is channeling some of his best form at present, and were the Habs to get ~0.930%+ goaltending throughout the season we might be revering them in similar ways.
In any case, it’s hard to imagine the Oilers finding any sort of postseason success without a genuine upgrade at G that Mike Smith probably can’t provide. I said that last year and he proved me wrong in a big way, but IMO that just decreases the odds of him doing it again.
That they also need a couple of genuine top half Fs, to make some improvements to the bottom half, and need a D or two, too, just points to how much work Ken Holland has to do this summer.
As an aside — does it bother anyone else that the playoffs seem to come down to goaltending most every year?
