Happy (belated) Mother’s Day! PLUS: #Oilers get the #Canadiens in the first game of a two-game set tonight at 5PM. Two wins would ensure they play WPG in Round 1. AND: PODCASTSZN!

Morning, folks!

Hope the mothers in your lives had great days yesterday. The rest of you, too, but you know. It’s their day.

Our heroes venture east tonight for a two-game series with the Montreal Canadiens, a team that most people seem to acknowledge takes about 50 penalties a period, knowing that the refs are only ever going to call 2-3 of them (at most).

Connor McDavid hit his milestone 100 points after an outburst against Vancouver last time out. Some lines of thinking might suggest keeping him on ice for these two games given Montreal’s penchants for cheating, but the Oilers might want to field their strongest team here and try to win a couple to avoid playing Montreal in round 1. Will be curious to see what Tippett decides.

Rob Rossi, a Penguins reporter for The Athletic, tried to make the case for Sidney Crosby as the NHL’s MVP this season. It’s laughable, truly, but he tried. In response, local legend Woodguy had this to say:

What really sticks out to me is the McDavid Off GF%. The Oilers are still getting pounded when McDavid’s off the ice. Remember that when you’re being told how good of a job Ken Holland is doing.

As per, it’s a busy Monday on the site. Corey’ll check in with his odds forecast, Preston will launch the latest and greatest episode of our podcast, and we’ll have our usual GAMEDAY coverage up at (around) the usual times.

Til then. LFG.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Episode 9 - “There’s Something About Connor McDavid”

(Hey, you try doing something with The Rise of Skywalker.)

Shona and Preston recap the week that was, and ponder what the signing of Ilya Konovalov might mean for the Oilers. They dive deep into Philip Broberg’s assignment to the taxi squad and how it could affect the roster ahead of the playoffs.

For this to happen before extension would be a disaster. Four years, too. Just brutal. He’s maybe been their best D this year, honestly, but four years with his back issues and age, etc?! No thanks. Prepare to lose one of Caleb Jones or Ethan Bear, if they get this deal done.
