#Oilers drop a close one in Calgary. PLUS: I’m going to miss Ethan Bear when they trade him. I’m going to be smug when he kicks the crap out of the league elsewhere, too. Like Jeff Petry.

Morning, folks.

Spirits are low after a frustrating loss to the Calgary Flames last night. Edmonton managed to draw one penalty. One. It’s an absolute joke and, while I hate to be that guy — and have found myself being that guy a fair bit during the old live Tweets this season — it’s pathetic. It’s absolutely pathetic.

Poor officiating didn’t just cost the Oilers a real opportunity to win last night, it might have a serious impact on Jujhar Khaira’s future. That right he ate at the tail end of his fight knocked him out on the spot. He laid on the ice in shock. He should have been out of the game already for a questionable hit that ended poorly and sent Oliver Kylington to the bench for a spell.

It also allowed the Flames to knock Tyson Barrie out of the game without consequence. I just don’t fucking get how a chippy game like that, the visitors have maybe the most unstoppable player ever — at least according to their coach this week, anyway — and they got one power play.

I hate the NHL so much.

Ethan Bear is getting pounded on after his ill-advised pinch led to the GWG. Not too many people talking about Mike Smith’s 0.852 SV%, of which at least one, and probably two, goals were his fault. Nobody faulting Nurse for sliding on the resulting odd-man rush, despite that slide taking him to the corner and well away from the play. Nobody giving RNH the gears for trying to be the goalie instead of checking Hanifin, the goal-scorer.

It was a bad play. Yes. Bear is probably feeling the effects of the entire city turning on you at 23 after 100 NHL GP. People say trading Nurse would be trading Petry all over again? Nope.

But Trading Ethan Bear would be.
