As is Friday tradition, I’m going to excuse myself a few breaths quicker than is perhaps typical. The Oilers are set to play their first of a home and home series with those terrible — and also actually kind of terrible this year — Calgary Flames.
The Flames are spinning their wheels of late, with noted shitheel Matthew Tkachuk struggling to produce over his last handful and Mark Giordano finally aging out of whatever glamour spell has allowed him to pass as a reasonable and decent hockey player, and not the six-foot-tall slug he really is.
No word on the goaltenders yet this morning, but as I see it, they point to Mike Smith being both a good — and bad — choice for Edmonton tonight. Good in that his numbers are strictly better than Mikko Koskinen’s so far this year. Bad because they’re so far above his level that they are bound for regression. Another 7/11 night for Smith is coming at some point. I’d prefer it never be against Calgary.
One thing’s for sure though: Dave Tippett should dress Caleb Jones.
