Sorry for the extremely sporadic nature of the links the last couple weeks. I’ve been trying to adjust to a new schedule and, clearly, not doing adjusting well.
Earlier this week, the Oilers tied a franchise record for the best start to a season, and look to break that tie this evening when Adam Fox, Artemi Panarin and the rest of the New York Rangers come to town tonight for a 7:30PM matchup.
Dave Tippett spoke earlier in the week about Mike Smith potentially being available for tonight’s game, but I don’t believe that’s come to fruition. The good news is Mikko Koskinen has been kicking absolute ass this year, outside of one dud game he’s been fantastic (6-1-0, 0.934 SV%) and a big reason for the Oilers’ hot start.
Edmonton Oilers organizational mainstay, Kevin Lowe, will see his #4 raised to the Rogers Place roof tonight. Sportsnet will carry the ceremony ahead of puck drop, for anyone interested.
The Buffalo Sabres traded Jack Eichel yesterday, ending a long, drawn out saga that lasted well longer than it should have. He’s going to Vegas, with Peyton Krebs, Alex Tuch, and a couple of picks heading back to Buffalo. Earlier in the week, it was reported that Calgary was close, and that Matthew Tkachuk was part of the proposed package, but that turned out to be false. I would think that’s an eminently payable price for an absolute superstar, and I can’t help but wonder what the Oilers’ package would have looked like had they been interested.
