Morning, folks.

First thing’s first: one of our contributors was forced to deal with vile, racist vitriol in the comments of his latest post on his own website. I’d like to take this space to unequivocally stand with Sunil, and to re-iterate that that absolute trash behavior has no place here, or anywhere.

The Edmonton Oilers reprise their role as the only thing to do here tomorrow night when the visiting Calgary Flames come to town to open their season. The Oilers were victorious last time out with a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks in OT. Check back throughout tomorrow for our typical GAMEDAY coverage, where we’ll preview the matchup, open up a live thread an hour before puckdrop, and recap it afterward in case anyone might miss it.

Charlie McAvoy, inarguably one of the league’s premier defensemen, signed a $9.5MM extension with the Boston Bruins this morning. I’d wager that deal provides significantly more value than the similarly-structured Darnell Nurse extension signed earlier this year.

Don’t forget to check CB’s latest Good, Bad, and Ugly. He’ll be posting those throughout the season, but it’s always worth getting in on the ground floor.
