Happy 2021. Hope you were able to find some joy at the end of what proved to be a pretty trying year.

Now let’s get going. Yesterday training camp began with the team’s first optional skate and a bunch of sweet, sweet media availabilities. Incumbents Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins — who still needs a new deal as he enters the last year of his contract — all sat down to answer questions, along with newcomers Tyson Barrie and Kyle Turris, who took some time to speak about their new digs.

Speaking of media avails, coach Dave Tippett — who did speak yesterday — sat down with Jason Gregor last week to talk turkey, and it was very heartening. Tippett presents like someone who has a full plan for his Oilers this season: a keen understanding of what they were good at, where they can improve, and how to go about doing that. Otherwise, we have a series coming out in the coming days with help from our Canadian SBN counterparts as we work to preview the North Division in advance of puck drop 9 days from now.
