It’s been eight thousand six hundred and thirty seven days since the last time the Oilers skated in a game with any meaning. That all changes tonight as the season gets under way. The Vancouver Canucks are in town for the first game of the season. Can the Oilers pull off a season opening win?

THREE THINGS TO LOOK FOR

  • The Canucks will be without their leading scorer from the 2019-20 season in J.T. Miller. They will also be without defenceman Jordie Benn, both players are being held out of the lineup due to Covid-19 protocol. Miller put up 72 points for the Canucks in 2019-20, how much will his absence from the lineup be felt?
  • I was a big fan of the Dominik Kahun signing when it happened, and you bet I’m ready to see him make his debut for the Oilers tonight. Kahun signed a one year deal worth a teeny 975K during free agency this past offseason; it could easily turn into the best offseason deal the Oilers made. Look for him with Leon Draisaitl and Kailer Yamamoto
  • I’ve just got a feeling that McDavid is going to shred this year. He’s celebrating his 24th birthday today, and there’s every reason in the world to believe that he’s going to start a season that’s just a nightmare for opposing goaltenders.
