My view on the #Oilers season (I missed the roundtable cutoff):
Regular season results were around best-case scenario (standings).
But, the season has to be viewed as a failure in the context of McDavid's career. Too far away from truly competing, too far into it.
Your mileage may vary, of course, and people are likely to be more charitable to Ken Holland than I am in terms of how bad it was when he got here, and how much he can be expected to fix something like that, but the results are the results. The Oilers are probably somewhere closer to average than good — as evidenced by their bottom-third metrics at 5v5 this season — and Connor McDavid turns 24 in January.
That has to be unacceptable. The Oilers have to figure it out immediately. They’ve only got 6 more seasons of control. Tick tock.

McDavid's RW should be Jesse Puljujarvi to start the year, and for a good month or two. If he shows nothing, so be it. Cut your losses for good.
But there is likely no player with greater upside available to the #Oilers at what it will cost to bring him back.
