Morning, folks!

Hope you’ve licked your wounds from Saturday afternoon because the Oilers are right back at it tonight for a must-win Game Two.

They have to have it, they cannot afford to go down 0-2.

Hopefully Saturday’s embarrassment will serve as the catalyst to a long playoff run. May it be the first, short, stage-setting chapter in the eventual documentary about Connor McDavid’s first championship.

We’ll have you covered for tonight’s game right here with our GAME PREVIEW and GAME THREAD posts a little later today. Til then? Get hydrated. Get some carbs in you. It’s the biggest game in a couple of years.

The Minnesota Wild’s Matt Dumba was front and centre before puck drop on Saturday, delivering a speech (that he memorized, and delivered with no teleprompter) about social and racial injustices and then kneeling for the US anthem. He was “joined” at centre ice by the two teams, while Malcolm Subban and Darnell Nurse put their arms on his shoulders in support. Matt Dumba absolutely crushed that moment. The NHL, and the players on the ice with him, didn’t. Black lives matter.

Drake Caggiula has been given a 1-game suspension for his hit to the head of Tyler Ennis. Keen observers will recall that the only penalty on that play was given to Ennis, for clearing the puck over the glass.

Observations from game one that go beyond “Wow, holy shit, Mike Smith is not good.”

Former Colorado Avalanche beat writer Adrian Dater suggested that Connor McDavid’s personality was the biggest reason the Oilers lost on Saturday. What an idiot.

Late Friday night, the NHL finally passed their judgement regarding the conditions of the James Neal - Milan Lucic deal, ruling that the Oilers would indeed have to give up a conditional third round pick in either 2020 or 2021.

All that and more await in this morning’s links. Get through them as quickly as possible, you’ll need all your energy for tonight. LFG.
