One game tune-up before it gets real.

THREE THINGS TO LOOK FOR

  • SERVICE BETWEEN THE PIPES: Expect to see both Oiler goaltenders tonight in Mikko Koskinen and Mike Smith. Holding out hope that Dave Tippett is going to defer to Koskinen for game one on Saturday, but I’ve got a sneaky feeling he’s all about Mike Smith. Just give me sixty solid minutes.
  • A STEP UP: I expect McDavid and Draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins to show well. They always do. Maybe a game and a half for Andreas Athanasiou or a fourth-line player tonight. Something that we might not expect. Maybe a young defenceman shows well.
  • A CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH: I want to beat the Flames as much as you do, but let’s do it without an injury to a key player. No injuries to anyone, really.
