Yesterday, the Edmonton Oilers announced (I assume via their official Twitter, but who can say for sure) their re-signing of Swiss C Gaetan Haas to a one-year extension.
The #Oilers have signed Gaetan Haas to a one-year contract extension through the 2020-21 campaign. The 28-year-old forward has appeared in 58 games this season, posting five goals & five assists. https://t.co/z9GzeaYIxQ— Edmonton Oilers (@EdmontonOilers) April 28, 2020
Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston joined Tim and Sid to relay some information he’s heard about what the NHL’s return to action might look like, and how it might impact next year.
Ethan Bear, inarguably the team’s second-best defender at present and perhaps arguably better than that at times this year. Oilersnation dove deep on the young blue liner, who has gone from the fringes to the core in one (suspended) season.
Lowetide wonders if the Oilers can finally find Connor McDavid’s ideal winger this summer.
Given Caleb Jones’ emergence this season — and with Philip Broberg and Dmitri Samorukov, among others, waiting in the wings — might it make sense for the Oilers to move on? (Yes. The answer was probably yes even before they had enough depth in the pipeline to cover for him.)
In news that surprised nobody, the 2020 Hlinka-Gretzky U18 tournament — scheduled to take place in Edmonton in August — has been cancelled. It does make one start to wonder how the NHL can be considering returning to action if tournaments like this are still cancelling, but I know these are not like-for-like comparisons. But also, still.
