The Gretzky Index, AA, Yamamoto comparables, draft stuff, Tippett, Lennstrom (who?), and MORE! Happy Monday.

Morning folks! Crack open that ice cold case of Mondays and let’s get after it.

The conclusion of Corey’s Gretzky Index series: the best possible lineup as per his metric. It’s a good team. Quite.

Lowetide looks at the (nobody expects the) Andreas Athanasiou acquisition as a parable for the Oilers trading of Jochen Hecht many years back. I’ll always remember Hecht’s skates. What a weirdo.

Diving a little deeper into the Oilers’ most important player this season: Kailer Yamamoto. Of course, he wasn’t actually the team’s most important player, what with Edmonton boasting the league’s top two scorers. BUT, Yamamoto’s recall allowed the Oilers to play those scorers on separate lines at even strength, which arguably saved their season.

Dave Tippett’s MO coming into Edmonton was turning around teams quickly. He was on his way to accomplishing that same feat again with the Oilers before the COVID-19 stoppage.

As per Sportsnet, the NHL and NHLPA have formed a committee of stakeholders from both sides to discuss options for returning to action.

In pop culture news, former NFL player Chad Johnson repped a home Connor McDavid jersey while hotboxing a stogey in his Smart Car (I assume, maybe he’s upgraded lately). This is the discourse right now.

A report surfaced from earlier this weekend about the Oilers’ apparent interest in SHL lifer Theodor Lennstrom. The Oilers are thought to be frontrunners thanks to their Swedish incumbents, as well as a connection (as a former teammate) to Joakim Nygard. Word is he’d be likely to help shore up Bakersfield before thinking about full-time work in the bigs.

Remember the names Cameron Abney? Or Geoff Paukovich? Or Jean-Francois Jacques? Troy Hesketh? Yeah, we’ve been through it here.

Given the NBA’s reopening of practice facilities to players in jurisdictions with easing lockdown restrictions later this week, the NHL is looking at doing the same for its players.
