The Oilers have signed defenceman Filip Berglund to a two year ELC.
A third round selection from the 2016 entry draft, Berglund has since been a mainstay for his hometown Skefftea of the SHL. Berglund’s latest season has him finishing second among defencemen in points with 20 (5-15-20) in 52 games.
A right-handed shot, Berglund will join the pool in Linkoping (SHL) with former Edmonton Oilers goaltending netminder Jonas Gustavsson. Berglund will likely play the 2020-21 year in Sweden before getting the opportunity to join the Condors in 2021. If Evan Bouchard progresses in the manner that we’re expecting, Berglund could have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the Bakersfield blue line in a year’s time.
