When will it end?! The Oilers have been ravaged by injuries over the last few weeks, with Connor McDavid (returned this week), Oscar Klefbom, Kailer Yamamoto, James Neal, and Andreas Athanasiou headlining an injured list that seems to be growing longer by the second.
Green (3-8-11 in 50GP) collided with Vegas’ Chandler Stephenson just inside the Golden Knight’s blueline late in Wednesday’s 0-3 shutout loss to their division rivals. He was visibly uncomfortable afterward and today’s news doesn’t come as much of a surprise after watching his right leg torque in ways it was not designed to.
Here’s the incident in question:
Oilers injury woes continue. I’m told Mike Green will miss some time with lower body injury (my guess is knee). Likely injured it late in Vegas on this collision. pic.twitter.com/uh9CgLM0v7— Jason Gregor (@JasonGregor) February 28, 2020
Look for Matt Benning to draw back into the lineup for tomorrow night’s big game against the Winnipeg Jets. Benning’s been, as usual, quietly good on the right side of Edmonton’s third pairing all season, and likely won’t represent a drop-off of any kind in Green’s absence.

Kailer Yamamoto’s injury is still week to week, but don’t tell Jim Matheson:
Yamamoto is not out week to week as Oilers said orginally. That sounds ominous. Source says two weeks, maybe three with his ankle after he fell awkwardly in LA this past Sunday.— Jim Matheson (@NHLbyMatty) February 28, 2020
But, perhaps, Matty just isn’t as connected as he used to be. As per team mouthpiece Bob Stauffer:
Kailer Yamamoto and Andreas Athanasiou are both on the ice today for the Oilers full practice— Bob Stauffer (@Bob_Stauffer) February 28, 2020
Athanasiou-McDavid-Ennis— Bob Stauffer (@Bob_Stauffer) February 28, 2020
With Yamamoto and Athanasiou both taking practice on their regular lines, perhaps they’re both objects in your rearview mirror: closer than they appear.
We’ll find out for sure tomorrow when the lineup’s released.
