Morning, everyone!
The Oilers are in Tampa Bay tonight to play their second game without their captain Connor McDavid. Last time out Leon Draisaitl’s line, with Kailer Yamamoto and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, carried the mail en route to a 4-3 victory over Chicago. But Tampa Bay is a different animal altogether. It’ll require a few more hands on deck to get out of this one with any points.
Tyler Benson was recalled yesterday and looks to draw in tonight, as the Oilers placed James Neal on injured reserve retroactive to January 30 and McDavid and Nygard also out.
Bob Stauffer continues to float former Oiler Anton Slepyshev’s name out into the ether as a possible addition for next season, noting that Oilers GM Ken Holland spoke to him at some point this season about the possibility. Slepyshev’s having a career year in the KHL this season and just yesterday tied CSKA’s franchise record for longest point streak (14 games).
Speaking of Ken Holland, the Oilers are barreling toward the Trade Deadline, and likely need to bolster their lineup if they want to do any damage come Spring. Who might Holland be looking at?
Jesse Puljujarvi. That’s it, that’s the tweet.
It’s GAMEDAY out East tonight, so you know what that means — early puck drop and, of course, our GAME PREVIEW and GAME THREAD posts dropping later. Wheel it back around and we’ll see you then!
