Huge news last night as the Oilers took care of their biggest piece of outstanding business — now that they’ve settled up with that hotel in Dallas, anyway — and re-signed Ethan Bear to a two-year deal worth $2MM annually.
That’s massive news for the Oilers as their incumbent 1RD is signed and will join the Oilers for camp beginning January 3.
Bear was revelatory last season, and with Oscar Klefbom out for the season, it was imperative for Ken Holland and Co. to get their next best defender back under contract. It remains a disappointment that the term is so short, but Bear should comfortably cover that bet, and who knows, maybe his lack of PP1 time helps keep his next deal reasonable.
I wouldn’t bank on it though. It didn’t seem to matter for Darnell Nurse’s recent extension.
