Welcome Welcome Welcome!
We are a little late in establishing a daily discussion thread for this year’s 2021 World Junior Championship but better late than never. I actually have to thank one of our readers for suggesting that we do this, so a big thanks to “bwar” for giving me the idea to get one of these established! With that thrilling origin story out of the way, let’s get a rundown of what happening today...
Oiler fans will want to keep a close eye on today’s first game as Philip Broberg and Sweden will look to improve to 2-0-0 as they take on Austria. Broberg captured player of the game honours in Sweden’s first game of the tournament, a 7-1 win against the Czechs, and exploded in the second period with 3 assists. His play in all ends of the ice has been impressive so far and he should have an even bigger impact against a lesser team like Austria. That game gets going at 4pm MTN.
The late game will feature a few top-notch NHL prospects as Germany takes on the Slovaks. Tim Stutzle, fresh off signing his NHL ELC, will look to help the Germans rebound from an embarrassing 16-2 loss to Canada this past Saturday. They will be in tough, however, as they take on a Slovakian team that gave Canada everything they could handle yesterday. Players to watch in this one will be Tim Stutzle and J.J Peterka for the Germans and Martin Chromiak and Juraj Slafkovsky for the Slovaks.
Let the discussion run wild in the comments below and thanks for reading!
