Two days from the big day and a smooth three weeks from the NHL’s opening night. Questions abound with Oscar Klefbom’s injury, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Ethan Bear’s contract negotiations looming large among other unresolved issues. The Oilers are effectively capped out and though the forward group is better, their goaltending is likely worse (Mike Smith is 100 years old), and there are at least as many questions as answers on defense. Tyson Barrie will help, but he doesn’t play the left side and he certainly doesn’t PK like Klefbom:

Ethan Bear’s status keeping him from camp is obviously a concern, perhaps most of all because the opportunity to sign him to a deal with some term feels like its beyond them. Perhaps that’s just me being cynical.
Sunil laid down a few benchmarks the Oilers should be aiming for if they hope to be a sustainably competitive team this season. Definitely take a look. He also joined CBC Radio Active to talk Oilers if listening is more your thing.
It’ll likely be a quiet couple of days as we get into the Eve and Day, but we’ll try our best to give you something to poop to every morning, at least.
Don’t say we didn’t get you anything.
