Between the people of the US voting in the presidential election and our Copper and Blue staff voting on the Top 25 Under 25, it was a busy weekend!
I’m going to mostly let the links speak for themselves this morning, but did anyone else happen to catch the William Lagesson news out of Sweden? It hasn’t been widely reported, so I wouldn’t blame you if you haven’t, but apparently he’s been released from Vita Hästen HC after signing his NHL extension. The new contract means he became an NHL loan — a status he did not officially have without an NHL contract — and since Vita Hästen already had their maximum of four NHL loans when Lagesson signed to play there, his contract is no longer good, and is forced to leave.
This is a relatively big deal for a player who is surely looking at a few cups of coffee this season as the team’s 7D, and Lagesson (and the Oilers) would do well to find him a spot soon so he can stay sharp.
It’s a bigger deal for Vita Hästen, though, who have relied on Lagesson as their 1D for most of the young season. He posted 3-6-9 in 11GP to start the year.
