Morning, folks!

It’ll be a brief one this morning as I’d like to get out of the way of the Draft Live Thread in time for the second round to begin.

We know what happened yesterday, it took forever and feels like it just ended, so I won’t dive too deep into it right now.

Suffice it to say, I don’t love the pick — I don’t necessarily hate it, either — but I do not think that drafting Holloway there represents the kind of thinking I’d like to see from the Oilers GM (and his scouts).

It is difficult to suss out much of value about his season last year given his unique position as an 18 year old in the NCAA (I believe he was one of only two last year), granted, but given there were a few more ‘proven’ offensive players available at that slot, I’d have liked to see them prioritize that a bit more OR trade out of 14 to get Holloway a little later if possible. It’s hard to look at Edmonton’s night and believe they did better than Calgary, for instance, and Calgary was operating from a less valuable slot to start with, which really steams my cheeks.

Ah well, something in the water under the bridge, right?
