NHL: Columbus Blue Jackets at Edmonton Oilers Perry Nelson-USA TODAY Sports

Morning, folks!

Excuse my unwillingness to get into things this morning, I’m coming off a brutal Sunday Night Football result. The (soon to be) 2-5ive Crew is a little down in the dumps. Forgive me if I don’t have two cents to add to the various Oilers stories we’re bringing you today.

But, how bout those stories? What’s pressing?

Well, in my world, I’d like to see Ethan Bear get an extension. I know the money’s weird right now, and I wonder if they have some sort of handshake deal to sign as soon as they can throw Oscar Klefbom on LTIR (when the season starts, for maximum value), but otherwise it’s hard not to be a bit concerned that arguably the Oilers’ best D is sitting without a contract right now.

Of course, we’ve only got one season of his playing at that level to go on. There is some degree of risk in giving a player like Bear a deal with term, but there’s obvious risk in signing him to a bridge deal if he flourishes, too.
