Oilers miss out on another nice UFA deal as Dzingel signs in Carolina for 2 years, $3.375MM. Changes to the scouting operation likely as Detroit parts way with Tyler Wright. AND MORE!

For whatever reason, the Oilers haven’t - or couldn’t - find a way to make Dzingel work this summer.

Good morning!

Just before I sat down to do these today, Carolina signed UFA F Ryan Dzingel to a two-year deal. For me, it’s just another bit of nice business that the Oilers missed out on in what is shaping up to be an underwhelming (at best) summer for a hockey club in desperate need of something more.

As per Spector, the Oilers are set to announce some changes to their scouting set up, with former Red Wings Director of Amateur Scouting Tyler Wright and Pro Scout Archie Henderson joining the fold. Stay tuned as we’ll have more coverage about it later today.

Lowetide takes a deeper look into the latest from the Jesse Puljujarvi camp. Maybe that will be the Oilers’ biggest free agent add this summer, which, as I mentioned in the comments to yesterday’s links, I’d almost certainly support. I’m still irrationally in favour of that kid succeeding as an Oiler. I also feel it’s worth suggesting that signing your own under-performing RFA should not be your best move of the summer if you’re in the Oilers situation, but that’s for another day.

Gregor sat down with Mike Smith, who feels he has a lot to prove this season. That’s all well and good, but as Jonathan Willis noted earlier this summer, goalies of Mike Smith’s age don’t tend to buck the age curve, and father time will forever be undefeated.

Have a great weekend!

Jesse Puljujarvi’s agent opened the door a little yesterday, suggests Lowetide. He also suggests we don’t get ahead of ourselves. (Lowetide)

For Money

Lowetide suggests the Oilers might finally be getting past the 2014 draft. Let’s not talk about the 2015 just yet.
