The eight-time national champion University of Alberta Pandas Hockey program will close out its 2018-2019 season with a fundraising event on March 30, 2019. The Pandas Hockey program will welcome alumnae, family, friends, and program supporters together to finish their season with a party. The Pandas, U Sports’ most decorated women’s hockey program, will end their 2018-2019 season with a celebration and party designed to raise funds for their Home Grown Excellence Scholarship fund.
The Home Grown Excellence Scholarship provides scholarships to talented primarily Edmonton based female hockey players who would prefer to play their university hockey close to home instead of travelling to places like NCAA to play at the highest levels of competitive hockey. This ability to provide young players with scholarships allows the Pandas to build on the past strengths and successes of the program while providing for a competitive future. If the Pandas want to continue their winning ways, they have to be equipped to attract the very best. Scholarships help them to do this while providing young women a chance to pursue an education and play hockey.
The 4th Annual Pub Night
Event will be held at the Ellersie Ruby Park (11004 Ellsersie Road) where there
is plenty of parking available. This year the Pandas are keeping it a PHamily
affair and welcoming Taylor-Rae and the Backseat Drivers to share the stage.
Taylor-Rae is the sister of Pandas forward Alex Poznikoff; the Pandas program
is excited to share this up and coming talent with the rest of the Pandas
PHamily.
Also included in a fun and upbeat evening will be several fundraising activities including a jersey available for purchase, silent auction items, and the Pandas Scholarship raffle draw. Raffle tickets for the Pandas Scholarship fund will be available at the event for those who still need them. The first prize for the raffle is a suite at an Oilers game next season. The Pandas will have several other unique fundraising opportunities throughout the night.
Finally, there is the
ever-popular balloon blitz. Particularly enjoyable, the balloon blitz features
numbered prizes randomly placed in balloons. Each balloon is guaranteed to
contain at least a prize but there’s no guarantees to exactly what that prize
is.
The evening promises to
be filled with laughter, excitement, and opportunities to support one of the
premier women’s hockey teams in Canada. Tickets can be purchased through
the University of Alberta Athletics Department at http://uab.ca/phky
