Oilers Send Markus Granlund and Brandon Manning to Bakersfield

Matt Benning closer to being activated, but not just yet

NHL: Los Angeles Kings at Edmonton Oilers Perry Nelson-USA TODAY Sports

After a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad game, the Oilers are shipping two to Bakersfield.

Markus Granlund has four points (3-1-4) in 31 games so far this year, while Brandon Manning has a goal in nine games. Both are headed to Bakersfield, as there’s not a chance that they’ll be picked up by another team between now and noon Sunday.

The Oilers aren’t in action until Tuesday when they host the Rangers. This gives them time to either make a call-up or two. They could also decide that they’re going to activate Matt Benning, who has been out several weeks with a head injury.

If Benning isn’t ready to go by Tuesday, they ought to call up Tyler Benson or even Kailer Yamamoto. Maybe both. The Oilers have lost four of their last five games and are 2-7-1 in their last ten. If the club isn’t going to make a move, call someone up.
