Apologies for being MIA yesterday, some technical difficulties precluded me from logging in.
We’re through another eight-game segment, so Czechboy’s review of it is live as of yesterday.
Caleb Jones was recalled yesterday with Joel Persson returning to California after a couple of uninspiring performances. One has to wonder whether there is a showcase element to this recall, as the Oilers clearly need help up front and have some Jones-type defenders they’ll lose to waivers next season if they can’t ‘spend’ them this season. Whether that ‘spend’ involves finding them a permanent home on the big club or including them in a trade for Taylor Hall (for instance) remains to be seen.
Speaking of trades, Preston took a look at a few of the possible pieces that might head the other way in a deal. Whether they decide to go for it, or not, the Oilers should be moving some of these guys before the end of the year regardless.
Lowetide digs into some of these guys as part of his look at Edmonton’s top 20 prospects as of right now, and notes that it is pretty heavy on defensemen. Something’s gotta give.
Mike Smith had another tough start against the Sabres, with another goal (or two) that he’d like another crack at featuring in their 3-2 loss to Buffalo.
Don’t forget there’s a game tonight, with puck drop between the Oilers and Hurricanes slated for just after 7PM. Wheel it back around for our typical coverage. Til then.
