The Oilers are back in action tonight against the New York Islanders, with puck drop scheduled for a shade after 5pm MST. The Oilers will look to stay perfect and start 3-0-0 for the first time since 2008.
James Neal’s gotten himself off to a nice start with two goals in two games. Mikko Koskinen has yet to draw in, but while Mike Smith is 2-0-0, his SV% number is < 0.900%, so I wouldn’t suggest he’s a lock for the job moving forward. Don’t be surprised if Koskinen gets his first work of the year tonight, but Smith’s won a couple in a row and had a couple days off, so he certainly could go again.
RIley Sheahan has been in concussion protocol for a little while now, but he’s set to return and the Oilers will have to accommodate him. Who gets left out?
Joel Persson made his NHL debut against the Kings on Saturday, but just a few years ago he was a part-time teacher in Sweden. His path to the show is fascinating, and worth reading up on.
Jesse Puljujarvi is remaining relevant in Finland with 3-5-8 in 9 GP to remain in the top 25 over there. Only two players ahead of him are as young, or younger, than Puljujarvi, and the league leaders aren’t running away from him. Point is, there should still be some interest in him over here, so who might be a fit?
Now get yourselves caught up with the pertinent information and don’t forget to wheel it back around later for Corey’s Pipeline series (~10AM MST) and our GAMEDAY coverage (throughout)!
