Oilers come from behind to beat Vancouver 3-2 to open the season with a win.

NHL: Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers
McDavid looked quite rusty for a large part of that game, but his goal was phenomenal.

Morning, folks!

Well that was fun, wasn’t it? I mean, sure, was it mostly not fun for large parts of the second and the first half or so of the third period? Absolutely. Did Connor McDavid look rusty enough to give you tetanus for most of it? Definitely.

But he scored a worldie to give them the lead in the third period and they rode a capable performance from Mike Smith the rest of the way to victory. A nice start to the season, at least in terms of results.

Early returns suggest maybe Smith has a bit more in the tank than I’d given him credit for, and that Draisaitl might do just fine without Connor McDavid for the bulk of his minutes this season. You love to see it.
