Excuse yours truly for being behind schedule this morning, but it is Friday, after all. The Oilers are coming off a wonderful come from behind win against the always tough Washington Capitals last night. Connor McDavid looked, at least for one period, orders of magnitude better than his contemporaries. Leon Draisaitl managed two more goals to keep the dream of back-to-back 50-goal seasons alive. Ethan Bear is looking more and more like the better half of his pairing with Darnell Nurse. The Edmonton Oilers are still first place in the NHL after 11 games.
What a time to be alive.
Heading into the third last night, the Oilers would have been full value for the loss, managing a meagre 2 high danger looks through 40 minutes at home. Luckily for the Oilers, and all of us, Connor McDavid decided to win that game by himself, erasing any and all angst we might have had over their preceding 8+ periods.
Sure, did McDavid and Draisaitl play almost half the game? Did none of the Oilers’ bottom-six forwards eclipse 10 minutes of ice time? SURE. Did they look mostly like last year’s group for the first two periods? YES, OK, FINE. But who cares?!
(We care, but we’ll wait til they lay another egg to talk about how serious of a problem it is.)
Get yourselves bathed in post-game coverage, enjoy your Fridays, and we’ll see you back around for Sunday afternoon’s game at 2PM MST.
