It’s GAME DAY so you know what that means, keep it locked to the website for our ongoing game day coverage, with our usual threads arriving at their usual times.
Oscar Klefbom has been the Oilers’ best defender for a few years now, and his development path might serve as the best blueprint for Edmonton moving forward.
The Oilers’ start has been wonderful, but their game to game performances haven’t necessarily been as uniformly excellent.
A large reason for the Oilers’ early season success involves Ethan Bear and how legitimate he’s performed as a top four defenseman alongside either of Klefbom or Darnell Nurse. Not only is he arguably the best puck mover they have right now, but his defensive game has improved significantly, too.
Sam Gagner was recalled a few days ago, and he’s not looking to bus back to California any time soon. The Oilers could use some offensive competency further down their lineup, and Gagner has always been a skill guy, and his 4 points in 4 AHL games to start this year indicates he might still have something to contribute in that regard.
Darnell Nurse is enjoying a nice start to the year anchoring what has become the ‘top pair’ alongside Bear, which further begs the question: HOW MUCH WILL HE GET PAID THIS SUMMER?!?
Jesse Puljujarvi continues to perform well enough in Finland to either provide some Oilers fans solace or piss lots of Oilers fans off, depending on, well, I’m not sure, really.
Check back later this morning for our Game Preview for tonight’s tilt against the Minnesota Wild, and come back around later this afternoon for the rest of our GAME DAY coverage!
