SB Nation Opponent: Winging It In Motown
The Oilers won a wild one against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night. Connor McDavid had a five point outing (including a memorable goal), Leon had three points too. Brandon Manning scored a goal. Mikko Koskinen grabbed 49 saves (!), it was perfectly normal.
The Oilers look for their seventh win on the season as the Detroit Red Wings are in town. Can the Oilers get ahold of this one early?
THREE THINGS TO LOOK FOR
- TONE IT DOWN OUT THERE: Simply put, the Oilers have to tone it down. They miss Adam Larsson and Joel Persson, both of who are out due to injury. The defence is a little wonky right now, but let’s not throw 50 shots on Mikko Koskinen tonight.
- TAKING ADVANTAGE: The Wings are reeling right now. They’ve lost three straight, they’ve allowed fifteen goals during that time period. They’re playing the second game of a back-to-back tonight after getting banged around in Calgary. The Wings top line is the one that can cause havoc. Hold the top line at bay, and the rest of the game should be manageable.
- NEW DUDS: Tonight marks the debut of the new third jersey in Oil Country. The navy coloured kits have received a mixed reception, though people will likely buy them like hotcakes if the Oilers win more often than not.
Let’s get it.
