Well, it happened. The Oilers lost their first game of the season last night. While most of us surely expected this to happen about five games ago, it’s hard not to feel like they let one slip away against an undefeated Hawks team that still pours minutes into Brent Seabrook.
The Oilers were not good for large parts of last night’s game and in most cases, those parts coincided with shifts that didn’t include one of Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl.
Mike Smith was up to his usual shenanigans, making some important stops on the one hand but actively causing Chicago’s second goal with his penchant for puck handling.
All in all, it’s pretty hard to complain about a 5-1-0 record after six games this season.
So we’ll wait until they’re 5-2, because there are obvious concerns about their play, results aside.
You may have noticed there was no recap for this one last night, and I guess we all learned a valuable lesson about what happens when you have two writers for a Saturday game and zero for the holiday Monday.
Leave your best GAME RECAP headlines in the comments for last night’s affair. My working title: “Something something something, #Oilers lose 3-1.” Something like that.
