Tough first loss for the Oilers on Monday night, eh? Brutal second period, and what was Smith thinking on that second Hawks goal? For an answer to that question, you’ll have to read a different article. This one’s about the Oilers’ farm teams and other local teams of interest.
The Condors have only played once since our last update, a 4-3 loss in San Jose, to the Barracuda, on Sunday. Kailer Yamamoto had a goal and an assist, and currently leads the club with three goals and four points. His 12 shots on goal also rank second on the team, to only Josh Currie. So far so good for the diminutive winger.
U of A Golden Bears
The Bears opened up Conference play this weekend by sweeping a two-game set against the U of S Huskies at Clare Drake Arena. A fine start to Canada West Play, as the Bears look to defend their conference title from last season. This weekend, they’ll play a home & home against the MRU Cougars, with the Edmonton half happening on Friday night.
The Ooks opened their regular season this past weekend as well, earning four points on the road, in two games against SAIT. Look for the Ooks to contend in the ACAC this season.
The Griffins led off the season with a home and home against Red Deer College. The Griffins won their home game 3-2 in double overtime on Friday, and lost their road game 6-4 at RDC.
The Oilers’ ECHL affiliate opened their season this weekend, at home. They earned three of a possible four points. They play three road games this week. They’ll take on Utah this Wednesday, then play two against Idaho on Friday and Saturday.
That’s it for now. You’re up to date on the little guys.
