#Oilers stay perfect with comeback win in New Jersey, but they’ll need to do more than shoot the lights out to sustain their hot start for 78 more games.

Good morning, folks!

Another game, another win for those Oilers as our heroes extended their best start in a decade to 4-0-0 last night with a shootout win in New Jersey. The Oilers found themselves second-best for most of the evening but managed a late equalizer on the power play through Connor McDavid before Leon Draisaitl scored the only goal in the shootout to take all the points.

The results have been excellent. The underlying numbers have been less encouraging. Not necessarily worth tugging at that string on a late Friday morning links post, but they are outkicking their coverage right now in a pretty big way and it won’t be a surprise to see some degree of correction in the coming games. It’s not typical to be a bottom-third team by xG (expected goals) and to be undefeated, but we’ll enjoy it while we have it.
