NHL teams make final roster moves to get cap compliant as Oilers waive a couple, and undergo final preparations before the season starts on Wednesday (!!!) against Vancouver.

Good morning, everyone!

Busy day yesterday. A handful of interesting names (Sven Baertschi, Josh HoSang, Nic Petan, Daniel Sprong, and Eric Comrie among them) hit the waiver wire yesterday, illustrating exactly why you absolutely never sign the Alex Chiassons of the league on July 1. There are more bodies than jobs, and there are opportunities to be rewarded with value if you have the patience to wait for the wire.

Our very own Preston joined Robyn P from Jewels From The Crown, SBN’s LA Kings blog, as part of their Pacific Division Preview episode!

What are everyone’s predictions for the opening night lines? Dave Tippett has played it pretty close to the vest so far, but I’m curious to see whether Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl start together or whether that will be reserved for chasing leads.

Riley Sheahan’s been knicked up, and will join Joel Persson on the injured reserve to start the season.

Sunil checks in with his thoughts on the Oilers offseason. Did Ken Holland do enough? Could he have done more? Should he have? I think you all know how I feel.

The NHL regular season begins tomorrow with four games on the schedule. The Oilers play host to Vancouver at 8PM MST. Looking forward to it! It’s hard to beat that peak optimism feeling you often get around October 1. Hold on to it, because for the better part of my adult life it’s only lasted until about mid-October in most years. Here’s hoping it’s different this time!

Now get yourselves read, and we’ll see you tomorrow!
