Well, it appears looking for another team to do the Oilers a favor, in regards to the salary cap situation, has fallen flat.
Everyone from yesterday cleared waivers
— Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) January 22, 2019
Yesterday, the Oilers placed Ryan Spooner and Ty Rattie on waivers. Today, they both cleared and are in limbo for now.
The Oilers can still accumulate 2M in cap space by sending them to the Bakersfield Condors, but so far there hasn’t been any indication about whether or not they will be re-assigned. It would have been nice to get at least one of those deals off the books, but it didn’t happen.
More as it comes in.
UPDATE:
Ryan Spooner is in the lineup tonight.
Oilers vs Detroit:

RNH-McDavid-Puljujarvi
Khaira-Draisaitl-Chiasson
Lucic-Brodziak-Kassian
Spooner-Cave-Yamamoto
Nurse-Larsson
Russell-Benning
Manning-Petrovic
Koskinen
On one hand, I am happy because it proves my point from yesterday that going on waivers doesn’t necessarily mean headed to the AHL. But on the other, the Oilers appear to have actually thought someone was going to claim him. All part of the plan, I’m sure.
