THE OILERS are playing in their final (okay, there’s the one in Germany after this one) preseason game before the 2018-19 NHL season takes flight. They’ll be facing off against their provincial rivals in a 1 PM contest at Rogers Place. Cuts will come shortly after this one, the bubble players have to let it all hang out. Can the Oilers take care of the Flames in a matinee game?
THREE THINGS TO WATCH FOR
- BUBBLE BOYS- There are a handful of players on the bubble between now and Game One on next Saturday. One of those players is Pontus Aberg. Aberg will likely get some top six time on a line with Leon Draisaitl today, is there light at the end of his tunnel? Will Jason Garrison secure a contract after getting a PTO? What about Alex Chiasson?
- RIEDER TIME- Tobias Rieder will get a spin on the top line today. Ty Rattie will be out of today’s contest after being a little “banged up” per Chiarelli. Rieder will be playing on his off wing, it could make for some interesting conversation if he can make some magic happen on the Connor McDavid / Ryan Nugent-Hopkins line.
- TALBOT TUNE-UP - Cam Talbot will get the start for the Oilers this afternoon. It could be his last game action until the regular season begins next Saturday versus the Devils. He’ll need to be sharp next Saturday, will he turn in a solid result today?
