The only big surprise here is that Keegan Lowe remains in main camp, and that Tyler Benson has been sent down this early.
Benson was one of the very best first-year pros throughout camp and the preseason games so far. He’s a real good prospect and I figured he’d get more time to show it. He’ll likely be one of the core guys for the AHL to start the season, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a call up later in the year. He can be proud of what he’s shown so far.
Caleb Jones got sent down a little bit earlier than expected. He wasn’t good in his preseason game, but from all accounts he was a much improved player from a year ago.
In the meantime, it appears Kailer Yamamoto, Ethan Bear, and Evan Bouchard are still in the running to show they belong. More cuts to come in the upcoming days.
